Are we overthinking Football Manager?
As Robbie brought Porto to a second-place finish in Portugal last season, Shane is considering adopting his philosophy – one formation, one tactic, one lineup, one mission for the season. Not that the master has become the grasshopper, but Germany is already starting to provide a different kind of a vibe. The transfers are shrewder, there’s a bit more thought being put into the starting lineups, the systems to be deployed and who’s filling the roles required.
This week on the podcast we’re wrapping up pre-season in Germany ahead of the opening of the DFB-Pokal and the first round of league action. Man United and Chelsea are coming to town to help Augsburg and Frankfurt wrap up August while Robbie’s hoping to attract some Scottish Premier League talent over to Koln for the season.
Pre-season routines are questioned, transfer business gets wrapped up early and wouldn’t you know it, the subject of Liverpool’s 7-0 win over Man United raises its heads with some actual football talk for the first time in quite some time. From concerns over access to live games via streaming services to building a squad based on best-fit roles for players instead of managers, there are plenty of talking points on this week’s podcast.

If you missed it, for season 10 of the podcast we’ve taken to the Bundesliga with Ken overseeing Eintracht Frankfurt, Shane looking after Augsburg and Robbie taking the reins at Koln. Get new episodes of the podcast every Friday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or wherever you do your podcast listening.
